The recent Coronavirus pandemic has affected people all across the world, there doesn’t seem to be a country that hasn’t been touched by it. Just like other countries, all of the usual sociable places like restaurants, pubs and clubs have all been closed during this time, in the hope of containing the virus. There will come a time in the near future when they all begin to open again, so let’s keep our chins up and look forward to some crazy parties when this is all over!
Precautions in Hungary
Adding to the lockdown procedures, Hungary has now implemented some new rules to try to minimise the spread of COVID-19. From today (27 April) facemasks are now mandatory for anyone travelling by public transport (including taxis) and when entering shops or markets.
The mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karácsony, decided to make facemasks mandatory because there is a higher risk of infection without them, especially in close proximity to others in enclosed spaces. All people, with the exception of children under the age of 6 years, must now wear them to prevent contagion.
Budapest public transport will be providing the masks, free of charge, to all citizens. They currently have 60,000 to give out, with thousands being made available to enable everyone to have a mask when necessary.
Budapest Locked Down
Countries around the globe are watching other countries to see how they are faring in response to the pandemic. In Budapest, the people are waiting for the government to give an idea of when lockdown can be eased. The 3rd May is a date, which has been mentioned with a view to relaxing rules. Apparently, scientists have stated that the spread of the virus is decreasing, so owners of catering businesses are hoping that the government will allow them to begin opening again. Unfortunately, it looks like the Budapest and Pest megye (county) can’t re-start its tourist-life, yet.
