In April, 4Play Lounge, Hungary’s top strip club, is having an extravaganza to celebrate Easter. The girls will be dressing up as Playboy bunnies as a nod to the Easter Bunny, but also to the infamous bunnies who adorn the Playboy mansion. Sexy and professional, Playboy bunnies have been around since the fifties, along with Playboy magazine itself. How has this brand managed to stand the test of time? It’s certainly one for 4Play lounge to live up to!
The History of Playboy
Hugh Hefner is the man who started it all, back in 1953. He published the first magazine with Marilyn Monroe’s image on the front cover. By 1956, the double-page Playmate centrefold became a triple-page spread and was extremely popular! Hefner bought his first Playboy mansion in Chicago in 1959, and a few of his Playboy models moved in and made it their home.
By 1960, the term Playboy Bunny was born and the first Playboy Strip Club was opened. Six years on and London became the next city to house a Playboy Club, along with its own casino. It quickly became a hugely successful business and one of the most prestigious clubs in the UK. Hefner bought another Playboy mansion in Los Angeles in 1971, which he eventually made into his permanent home. By 1976, the Playboy Club’s membership keyholders had reached 230,000, astounding for this type of club at the time!
1994 saw the Playboy brand become the first magazine to launch its own website, and the site has since become one of the most popular sites for men’s entertainment and lifestyle. Playboy fashion was introduced by 1999, with the infamous bunny symbol becoming emblazoned on various types of clothing, from sweat pants to T-shirts and hoodies. In 2010, Playboy celebrated its 50th anniversary by having 50 parties in Playboy Clubs across the world on the same night! It has now reached its 60th anniversary and is still going strong today.
Qualities of a Playboy Bunny
If you are considering a career as a bunny, then listen up! There are two main characteristics you need to become a good Playboy Bunny.
- Being friendly, warm and welcoming are non-negotiable traits. Any kind of bad attitude won’t get your foot in the door, so arrogance and conceitedness is not the way to go if you want the job! Playboy want their clubs to be relaxed and their customers happy and willing to return, so be friendly, positive and approachable at all times!
- Have interesting hobbies and pursuits outside of Playboy. Many of the bunnies have varied interests, such as being an opera singer and a dental hygienist! The reasoning for this is that it ensures customers always have an interesting conversation with the bunnies, so he bunnies gain more respect and are not just seen as ‘the girls who pour drinks’.
Famous Playboy Bunnies
Aside from Marilyn Monroe, there have been other famous lovelies who have appeared in the magazine. Darine Stern was the first African-American woman to appear on the front cover. Pamela Anderson made her debut in 1989 and appeared in 13 editions! Anna Nicole-Smith was Playmate of the year in 1993 and Jenny McCarthy has been on at least 5 covers. Even our own Kate Moss has had the privilege!
