Budapest wasn’t the original name proposed when this fabulous city was named. It was going to be called Pestbuda! Thankfully, the powers that be changed their minds and the two halves of the city now live happily side-by-side, joined by the Chain Bridge. But which side do the locals and visitors prefer? Further investigation is needed…
BUDA
Chilled and Peaceful
This side of the river is much more relaxed than the livelier Pest. Here you can find some of the most beautiful homes, some of which are on the more expensive side. Nonetheless, there is a wide range of housing for all budgets, which is why many Hungarians choose to live here.
Natural
Being close to the Buda hills means there is a wealth of countryside to explore. There are walking paths and parks for families to enjoy, so it’s no surprise that people come here to get away from it all.
Regal
Matthias Church, Buda Castle and Fisherman’s Bastion are all proof of why this side is considered more regal than the Pest side. These grand architectural buildings are certainly impressive. You can also visit the local spas, like the Gellert or Rudas baths.
Quaint
Although the regal buildings speak for themselves, Buda also offers some lovely restaurants and cafes. Not as high energy as Pest, but somewhere you can relax and enjoy watching the world go by. There’s a more cultural vibe to this side of the river and you can really get a taste of the smaller Buda city.
PEST
Lively and Fun
There are many, many bars and clubs in Pest and some streets are full to the rafters with all manner of party venues. This is an amazing place for those looking to have a great time, especially on stag or hen parties. Don’t forget, there’s also a gentlemen’s club in Pest that’s welll worth a visit – 4Play Lounge, of course!
Delicious
Pest has Michelin-starred restaurants and gastropubs, as well as ruin bars to cater to the crowds. You will never go hungry here and the food is out of this world. From traditional Hungarian food to international cuisine, you can pretty much eat whatever you fancy!
Affordable
Property on this side of the river is very affordable and you get to be in the heart of all of the action. Just make sure you’re not living above a nightclub!
Architecture
Pest is home to the stunning Parliament building, the Opera House and Vajdahunyad Castle, as well as Budapest Zoo. Views of this part of the city from the across the Danube are simply gorgeous too.
Strip Clubs
And if you are looking for the best strip club in Budapest, choose Pest: 4Play Lounge is near to Margaret Bridge so Buda is not so far. But if you are too tired or cold, don’t stay at home! Just call us on +36 1 705 7510 or +36 70 600 4936 and we will send a free and safe taxi right away.
It isn’t really fair to compare and contrast, both Buda and Pest have their own qualities and cultural delights. Go and spend time on both sides, explore and breathe in the Hungarian capital, you’ll be so glad you did.
